注意：卫报和时报在大学排名上用的指标区别是有的。
时报用了9个指标：
teaching assessment
research assessment
entry standards
student: staff ratio
library / computer spending
facilities spending
firsts and upper seconds
efficiency graduate destinations
还有一个没有解释。

卫报用了六个指标：
A staff score
Entry qualification  
Spend per student
Student:staff ratio  
Value added score
Student destinations  

对比以上指标，相同或类似的有：
时报teaching assessment 和卫报A staff score
时报entry standards和 卫报Entry qualification
时报student: staff ratio 和卫报Student:staff ratio
时报library / computer spending 、facilities spending 和卫报Spend per student
时报firsts and upper seconds 和卫报Value added score
时报efficiency graduate destinations 和卫报Student destinations

可以看出卫报的六个指标涵盖了时报的七个指标，其内容类似。最大区别是时报的research assessment 指标卫报没有相应的指标，卫报的A staff score 指标里应该不含有研究水平的成分。为什么这么说？因为卫报的排名对象包含了不招收研究生的本科院校。所以卫报的排名就不可能有研究质量指标。还有一个区别是时报的指标尽可能的采用了量化指标，如：teaching assessment 、firsts and upper seconds ，而卫报相应的指标却比较含糊，如：A staff score 、Value added score

结论：
读研究生的学生，应参考时报的排名为主，尤其是本专业的research assessment 最为重要。
读本科的学生，可参考卫报的综合排名，因为不含有研究水平指标的影响。但时报本专业的teaching assessment 才是最重要的。
