SketchUp 5 Release Notes
October 2005 Maintenance Release
Version 5.0.232
SketchUp
The following issues have been addressed in SketchUp and the SketchUp Viewer for this
release:
1. The Layers toolbar has been added back to SketchUp 5 with the same
functionality it had in SketchUp 4 as well as the ability to handle locked
components. Use the View > Toolbars > Layers menu item on the PC or the
View > Customize Toolbar menu item on the Mac to activate the Layers toolbar.
2. A system-wide option to toggle the new SketchUp 5 component highlighting
behavior has been added. This option is called “Bounding box only” and is
located on the Drawing panel of the Preferences dialog box. Check this option to
choose the highlighting behavior prior to SketchUp 5 (show only the bounding
box). Uncheck this option to enable the new SketchUp 5 highlighting behavior
that highlights entities in addition to the component bounding box (default
setting).
3. An option to turn off the new SketchUp 5 shadows for face me components,
(components that always face the camera), has been added. This option is called
“Shadows face sun” and is located on the Create Component dialog box, Entity
Info dialog box and the File panel of the Model Info dialog box. This option
provides the ability to toggle new shadows on a component-by-component basis.
Check this box to cause shadows to be cast from the component's current position
as though the component were facing the sun (SketchUp 5 behavior). Un-check
this box to cause shadows to be cast from the component's current position
(SketchUp 4 behavior). Generally, the new face me shadows work very well for
components with short bases (such as trees) and not as well for components with
wide bases (such as people in mid stride).
4. The SketchUp Import menu has been changed such that all import choices are
under one menu item: File > Import. This change makes it easier to find import
file types.
5. The Mac component browser now includes improved navigation, especially
though component sub-directories, support for double-click behavior when
exploring folders, and an improved folder icon to help distinguish between
components and component folders. This new folder icon has also been included
in the PC release.
6. Snappy dialogs have been improved:
a. On the PC, the Layers, Components and Material Browser dialogs can now be
resized horizontally (this was already possible on the Mac).
b. The Windows menu on the PC now indicates minimized dialog boxes by
putting a dash next to their name.
c. A bug where Snappy dialogs could break apart after minimizing/maximizing
SketchUp or hiding/unhiding dialogs has been fixed.
d. A bug where, when hiding/showing all Snappy dialogs, SketchUp sometimes
looked like it lost the selection set has been fixed.
e. On the Mac, a bug where Entity Info could appear cut off or duplicated after
hiding/showing all Snappy dialogs has been fixed.
f. On the PC, a crash that could occasionally occur when hiding/showing
Snappy dialogs with the Outliner dialog open has been fixed.
g. A bug where, under a complex series of steps, it was possible for Snappy
dialogs to have a space in the middle of the stack has been fixed.
h. Non-resizable dialogs that have taken on the width of wider dialogs in a stack
now immediately return to their original size when un-stacked.
7. SketchUp now remembers the default values you enter for the Sandbox tools
between SketchUp sessions. Previously, default values were remembered only
during a single session.
8. Under certain circumstances, such as reading/writing SketchUp models from
remote folders or an ME server, SketchUp sometimes issued a “parameter is
incorrect” or “failed to save” message. This issue has been fixed.
9. When large textures were present, it was possible that SketchUp 5 could be
significantly slower than SketchUp 4 on the PC. This slowdown was caused by
a fix for an issue involving very large textures losing some resolution clarity
after import into SketchUp. Due to the performance slowdown, we removed
this change. If texture resolution on very large images is more important to you
than performance, contact Technical Support for a possible workaround.
10. Previously, the Walk tool sometimes jumped across flat surfaces, especially
when the surface was very large. The issue has been fixed.
11. On the PC, if SketchUp was launched with the Edit Material dialog open and a
material edit was performed as the first action, SketchUp could crash. This
crash no longer occurs.
12. In some cases on the Mac (e.g.. opening models or panning/zooming),
SketchUp models with 8bpp images could cause SketchUp to crash. This issue
has been fixed.
13. On certain Macs (G5s with NVIDIA graphic cards and OS version 10.4.x), the
Fast Feedback option, which is turned on by default, could cause display
artifacts especially when drawing. Fast Feedback is now turned off by default
for the above configuration.
14. On the PC, a warning message has been added if a user opens SketchUp with 16
bit color set in the Windows Display panel. The warning alerts the user that
cursors and shadows may appear incorrectly with when running SketchUp in 16
bit color mode.
15. Image objects previously showed profile lines around edges. Images no longer
display with profile lines and behave as they did in SketchUp 4.
16. Under some circumstances, colorized textures appeared darker in SketchUp 5.0
than they did in previous SketchUp releases. These textures now display as
expected.
17. Certain slideshows, especially those with photo textures, did not always run
smoothly in SketchUp 5. This issue has been fixed.
18. Nested face me components could sometimes temporarily disappear when being
edited. This issue has been fixed.
19. In cases of network failure or difficulties, SketchUp could sometimes take a
long time to launch when checking to see if an update was available. This issue
has been fixed.
20. Previously, SketchUp could crash when inserting a component, clicking on the
Orbit icon and inserting the component again. This crash no longer occurs.
21. When saving components with validity errors, SketchUp previously could crash.
This crash no longer occurs.
22. Under some circumstances, inserting/opening SketchUp models with incorrect
arc/curve data could cause SketchUp to crash. This crash has been fixed.
23. On the Mac, when the Outliner and the Component dialogs were open and a
user selected File > Revert, it was possible that SketchUp could crash. This
crash has been fixed.
24. On the PC, if a test checking whether Hardware acceleration could be turned on
failed, SketchUp could crash on launch. This issue has been fixed.
25. In certain cases, especially where the Follow Me tool deleted faces, SketchUp
could crash when using Follow Me. This crash has been fixed.
26. Previously, SketchUp could crash when pasting a recursive component – i.e.,
copying a component, editing it, and then pasting it to create a component
which references itself. This crash has been fixed.
27. In certain cases when fixing validity errors and then performing several Undos,
it was possible for SketchUp to crash. This issue has been fixed.
28. On the Mac, SketchUp could crash when opening new models without a
document window open if the Layers dialog were visible. SketchUp no longer
crashes in this case.
29. Shadows for components that always face the camera previously could
incorrectly jump during a component edit. This issue has been fixed.
30. Previously, dimension text set to “align to dimension line” could print
incorrectly with a black or white block around the text when using the “Use
high accuracy HLR ” option. These dimensions now print correctly.
31. Under some circumstances, it was possible to see an error message stating that
an “invalid model has been detected” when the model had no errors. This error
message is no longer incorrectly issued.
32. Previously, the SketchUp PC Viewer install could be installed on unsupported
operating systems (i.e., Windows 95, 98 and ME) if an earlier version of Viewer
were already installed. An error message is now given and the install is no
longer allowed to unsuccessfully run.
33. If a previous version of SketchUp were installed, the Component browser on the
PC could incorrectly display, by default, the components from the earlier
version of SketchUp. SketchUp now displays the correct versions of the
components.
34. When drawing circles inside of rectangles, it was possible that the circle was not
divided correctly resulting in invalid curve data and a potential future SketchUp
crash. This issue no longer occurs and the invalid curve data is fixed.
35. Under some circumstances, the Sandbox Smoove tool could miss highlighting
certain vertices within the Smoove radius. This issue has been fixed.
36. The TGA format has been removed from the list of animation types on the PC
because it is no longer supported.
37. Additional information has been added to the status bars for the Sandbox and
Walk tools.
38. Valid digital signatures have now been added to the SketchUp and the Viewer
PC installs to prevent a Windows warning message from appearing during
installation.
39. Some documentation additions and corrections to SketchUp help, Ruby help,
the ReadMe, and the Quick Reference Card have been made.
40. On the Mac, SketchUp did not issue a version warning if a SketchUp 4.0 file
was loaded into SketchUp 5.0. This warning is now issued.
41. Under some circumstances (especially on Windows 2000), the Icon for the
Getting Started application could sometimes be incorrect. This issue has been
fixed.
Importers
The following issues have been addressed in SketchUp importers for this release:
3DS
1. When importing certain 3ds models multiple times on the PC, SketchUp could
hang or crash. This has been fixed.
2. When importing certain 3ds models with unusual data (e.g., vertexes out of
range), SketchUp could crash. This crash no longer occurs.
3. In some cases, 3ds models could import with the entities duplicated or incorrectly
exploded. This issue has been fixed.
4. In some cases, 3ds models could import with missing faces and/or unexpected
objects. The importer now handles this import case correctly.
DEM
1. On the PC, SketchUp could crash when performing several DEM imports in
succession. This crash no longer occurs.
2. Under certain circumstances, the texture generated by the DEM importer was not
correct causing the gradient changes to be inconsistent with the terrain. This issue
has been fixed.
3. Occasionally, importing certain DDF files by themselves created unexpected drop
offs on the DEM surface. The import of these DDF files no longer results in
unexpected output.
4. The faces field in the DEM importer Options dialog on the PC always saved to a
value of 494 vs. its true calculated value. This issue has been fixed.
DWG
1. When certain DWG files with invalid data were imported into SketchUp,
SketchUp could crash. SketchUp now handles the invalid data.
Exporters
The following issues have been addressed in SketchUp exporters for this release:
1. If the Export textures check box was unchecked and an image existed in the
SketchUp model, unexpected results could occur when exporting to OBJ, XSI and
FBX and a crash could occur when exporting to 3ds. This issue has been fixed.
2. Previously, all material/image files were exported as PNG files by the OBJ, XSI
and 3DS exporters and as JPGs by the FBX exporter. We now export most
material/image files in their original format – e.g., a JPG gets exported as a JPG, a
PNG gets exported as a PNG etc.. The exceptions to this rule are GIFs and
TGAs which get exported as JPGs on the PC and GIFs, TGAs and BMPs which
get exported as JPGs on the Mac.
3. On the Mac, closing out the Export Results dialog using the title bar Close button
could leave SketchUp in a bad state. This situation no longer occurs.
4. The ground plane was not always created correctly when exporting to EPIX. This
issue has been fixed.
5. A DWG export of a model with non-orthogonal geometry could result in incorrect
geometry. This issue has been fixed.
Ruby
The following issues have been addressed in SketchUp Ruby API for this release:
1. Two methods have been added to support the new “Shadows Face Sun” check
box: Set: shadows_face_sun= and Get: shadows_face_sun?
2. The selected_page= method has been added to set the current page.
3. Support for extension modules has improved. On the Mac, we now support
extension modules in SketchUp 5 as Ruby is installed as a framework. On the
PC, we fixed a bug where an extension module using MFC that calls back into
SketchUp could cause a crash due to module states being out of synch.
4. Support for the 'behavior' property on the Model object has been added to the
Ruby API allowing access to the behavioral properties of the model: face-me, etc.
5. A new optional parameter has been added to the Ruby Push/Pull method to allow
the "new face" behavior (with the Ctrl key) of the SketchUp 5 Push/Pull tool.
6. Previously when attributes were added to a group via Ruby and then the group
was turned into a component, the attributes on the group were lost. This issue has
been fixed.
7. Models created using Ruby scripts now have thumbnails.
8. Previously, attributes assigned on a model were not cleared when selecting File >
New. This issue has been fixed.
9. Under some circumstances when editing geometry inside a component via Ruby,
component axes could change back to the global axes when using
face.pushpull(x). This issue has been fixed.
10. Previously, it was possible that the Ruby add_face method could return a Nil for a
coincident face. This issue has been fixed.*-*7

一堆英文,有兴趣就慢慢翻译吧.我是没有什么耐心.
说大概是恢复了su4里面关于阴影的一个工具条.对于pc来说,在Use the View > Toolbars > Layers menu item.还有就是导入选项不分2D和3D了,直接用Import.....之类的话语
