Installation Notes
·                    The Autodesk VIZ 4 SP2 addresses the Licensing Error encountered by unregistered users prior to May 30, 2002.

·         An update to the Real People Plug-in for Autodesk VIZ 4 is available at:

General Feature Notes



ASSEMBLIES

·          Attaching inside assemblies now supports Select By Name keyboard shortcut (h)



BITMAP FILE I/O

·              Gamma state is now stored in the .max file upon save



·           Geotiff .tfw files position errors have been resolved.



·              8 bit TIFF bit order has been corrected.





CAMERA CORRECTION MODIFER
·              Flat Mirror reflections are now supported when using the Camera Correction Modifier.



·              Raytraced reflections with Anti-Aliasing are now supported when using the Camera Correction Modifier.




COMBUSTION
·              Combustion 2 plug-in is now available on the discreet web site.





DAYLIGHT (IES Sun and Sky)

·              Keyboard entry is now supported after the delay system is animated.



·              Skies are properly stored in the mesh when rendering with Compute Radiosity turned on.



·              Precision improvements to animating the Daylight Systems.



·              Quad Menu now supports Store Direct Illumination menu items.



·              The Orbital Scale value is now correctly scaled when merging files with different units.





EXPOSURE CONTROL
·              The Pseudo Color Exposure Control now displays the legend bar in video cards using any color depth.





FILE LINKING

·           Objects moving on reload has been corrected.



·           General improvements to stability have been addressed



·           Components of VIZBlocks now support Zoom Extents Selected.



·           Use of the Rename command in AutoCAD to rename blocks which have been linked into Autodesk VIZ may cause blocks to disappear from the viewports upon reload. When encountered you will need either to detach and re-link the file, or to rename the AutoCAD block back to its original name.



·           File Link splines can now be used for Lofting.



·           A Full Reload is required when a block, which has been linked into Autodesk VIZ, is deleted in AutoCAD.







HD IK
·           HD IK Sliding Limits, Spring Back and Position Threshold are now correctly scaled when merging files with different units.



·           HD IK now behaves as Interactive IK when moving objects in the viewport or by using the transform type in. The Interactive IK behavior produces a smoother movement when positioning objects, specially Luminaire objects.


Note: This feature can be turned on or off through an INI Switch:

[IK]
HDIKSolvesLikeInteractiveIK=<integer_value>


where integer can be any integer value 0 or 1. A value of 0 will revert the HD IK to its original state, where a value of 1 will turn this feature ON. If the INI switch is not present, it will default to ON.





i-drop&reg; Control

·           I-drop will now copy locally dropped files to the download folder.





IMPORT/EXPORT

·              DWG Import weld threshold now correctly displays units





ISOLATE SELECTION

·              Isolate Tool now supports Undo.





LAYERS

·           Radiosity Properties are now remembered and saved when editing in the Layers dialog.



·           Multiple Layers editing is now supported for Radiosity Properties





LIGHTING ANALYSIS
·              Lighting Analysis now reports the correct transmittance of objects with Translucent Shader.





LOOK-AT CONTROLLER
·              Fixed Roll Angle values which were changed when merging files on different units.



·              Target Lights and Target Cameras were flipping around their local Z axis when their alignment reached an angle that is close to vertical (World Z). This was a particular problem for luminairs that contained asymmetrical photometric distributions.



To resolve this problem a “Use Target as Upnode” option was added to the LookAt controller (defaulted to off).  Enabling this option will constrain the Y axis of the Light (or Camera) object being aligned to the Y axis of its target.  If both are part of an IK chain (which is the case with Luminaires), the flipping problem will not occur as the alignment of both objects will be maintained by the IK system.


In some cases, the light will flip 90 or 180 degrees even when the Use Target As Upnode option is checked. This behavior occurs due to the fact that the axis alignment is automatic. To solve this issue, apply a roll angle to the object, through the Transform Type In.

Example:

1.         Create a Target Point light, positioning the light at coordinates [0,0,0] and the target at [80,0,0] (use the Transform Type in to position the objects)

2.         Set the light distribution to Web and choose the web file point_recessed_wallwash_250W.ies located in the Maps folder.

3.         Create a Dummy object and position it at [0,0,0]

4.         Select and Link both the light and the target to the dummy

5.         Rotate the Dummy around its Y axis. Notice the light will flip when the light passes through the upper or lower point

6.         Select the Light and open the Motion Panel

7.         Turn on “Use Target as Up Node”

8.         Repeat the rotation in step 5. You’ll now notice that the light does not flip.



This checkbox is also exposed to MAXScript, as a controller property: .UseTargetAsUpNode.
Example:

myLight.controller.useTargetAsUpNode = true




MATERIALS
·           Flat Mirror reflection crashes have been solved.



·           Raytrace Map now correctly reflects transparent objects



·           Blurred Raytrace will not render object edges anymore





MAXSCRIPT
·           RenderSceneDialog structure now supports Undo.



·           Renderers structure now supports Undo



·           AssemblyMgr structure now supports Undo.



·           Unused Custom Attribute definitions will not be saved in the MAX or in the Material Library files.





OBJECT SUBSTITUTION
·           Substitute Modifier supports drag cloning from the Stack View.





PHOTOMETRIC LIGHTS
·           Linear and Area Light dimensions are now correctly scaled when merging files with different units.



·           Fixed some problems with Area Lights and Automatic Reflections



·           Shadow Bias and Area Shadow sizes are now correctly scaled when merging files with different units.



·           See Look-At Controller changes for information on Target Lights





RADIOSITY

·           Stars and Foliage do not invalidate the radiosity solution after rendering.



·           Display Radiosity in Viewport checkbox will not be disabled by other dialogs



·           Fixed Runtime Error when processing geometry objects with 0 faces, 0 vertices or 0 edges with meshing on.



·           Fixed Runtime error when rendering Face Normals = [0,0,0]



·           Sensor objects (objects with Cast Shadows and Reflectance disabled) can now be used and will not influence the Radiosity Solution



·           Radiosity Engine supports systems with more than 2 processors.



·           Asymmetric IES files support has been enhanced



·           Radiosity can be processed on scenes where the objects are located too far from the origin (0,0,0). These scenes can take longer to process, so it’s advisable to keep the objects close to the origin.





REGION NET RENDER
·           Region Net Render and Edit Named Selection Sets will now work fine when the ActiveX Control is not correctly registered in Windows.





SNAPS
·           Snaps functionality is consistent regardless of the grid state.





SPLINES
·           Splines I/O and Extrude capping has been improved.
